Dave Matheson was part of large changing of the guard in the World League in 2009.  Longtime owners Mark Brannon, Karl Reid, Dave Glinski, Leah Roberts, and Tom Roberts all left for various reasons.  Saving the league through a couple of 14 team lean years were two new short term owners Kyle Bumphries and Jason “Hack” Eckhoff and now longtime owner, Dave Matheson.  Dave came in and took over a troubled Little City Special People franchise renaming them the Kawishiwi Killers.  Matheson moved them to the Rivers of Kawishiwi in Northern Minnesota.  Now home to a very small but rabid fan base, Matheson has brought back the pride that Viking fans had lost with two World League of Football Superbowl appearances in 2009 and 2010 including winning WLOF Superbowl XII in the inaugural season of the Killers over the Hokkaido Sake Bombers.

 

Matheson’s past is hazy as to where the funding for purchasing the Killers from Karl Reid came from.  Being desperate times, no questions were asked by the WLOF Commissioners office.  Matheson came to prominence in the regime of Manuel Noriega, Maximum Leader of National Liberation in Panama and Military Dictator of Panama from 1983 – 1989.  After Noriega’s ousting by U.S. invasion in ’89 for racketeering, money laundering, and murder, Dave successfully transitioned to the regime of Guillermo Endara of the Panamenista Party where he worked behind the scenes helping “fund” the regime.  When Ernesto Perez Balladares came to power with the election in September of ’94, Dave had amassed a large fortune through means unknown.  All officials who tried to ascertain any of Matheson’s business dealings would tend to suddenly disappear.  For good.  Do you get what were are saying?  Matheson acquired the WLOF franchise with an all cash purchase.  He has since settled into the wilds of Minnesota in a secured fortress.  There has been a string of disappearances in the last few years in that area, specifically within a 10 mile radius of the fortress, but we are sure that there is no connection.  So we are all good, right Dave?  Dave?
